Recycle

Sometimes it just cannot be avoided. We buy or are given things that we will eventually have to throw away. Before throwing them into the everyday green bin however, think whether that bottle you are about to dispose of can become something useful. So, what can be recycled and where? An overview of recyclables is contained in our A-Z of recycling or the Recycling guide - more details can be found in the two panels below. Brown Bins

You can recycle the following items:

  • Cardboard food packaging (including cereal packets)
  • Brown cardboard
  • Envelopes (not with plastic windows)
  • Shredded paper
  • Cardboard toilet & kitchen roll centre
  • Egg cartons
  • All raw and cooked food scraps / peelings (including bones)
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Grass cuttings
  • Woody pruning (max diameter 3" / 80mm)
  • Real Christmas trees
  • Straw / hay (including the bedding of small animals e.g. hamsters)

Recycling Boxes

Each household is provided with three recycling boxes. To order additional or replacement or to exchange bins or boxes, or to check collection dates please visit the Three Rivers on-line service and scroll down to Refuse and Recycling Services.

Each box is to be used for specific waste:

Box 1: newspapers, magazines, junk mail, white directories and Yellow Pages

Box 2: glass bottles and jars

Box 3: food & drinks cans, aerosols and plastic bottles.
