Long Spring Wood

Long Spring Wood - Rickmansworth

4.0 hectares of ancient semi-natural woodland.

Long Spring Wood is dominated by oak and ash together with minor forest species such as birch, field maple, sweet chestnut coppice and cherryNorway spruce occurs in the north of the woods. Structure is good with hazel coppice, holly, dogwood, alder and blackthorn. The ground layer consists of bluebell, enchanter’s nightshade, red campion and wood speedwell.

Deer and rabbits are present in all woods. Roe deer and muntjac deer are locally common and there is evidence of deer browsing of young tree seedlings. Control of deer is not considered to be necessary at this time although browsing of the tree regeneration will require monitoring.
