Tanners Wood - Abbots Langley

2.3 hectares of mature ancient semi-natural oak dominated woodland.

Tanners Wood consists of oak in the upper canopy that appears to be relatively even-aged, beech, sycamore, and ash. Minor forest species include birch, cherry, rowan and field maple. The under-storey comprises hawthorn, hazel and holly with wide spread alder and bramble. An ancient boundary hedge is found on the northern side.

Deer and rabbits are present in all woods although this woodland is quite remote from other woodland and is surrounded by housing. It is less likely that they will be seen here. Other fauna that may be found here include foxes, badgers, hedgehogs and birds such as great spotted woodpecker.
