Reuse

Reuse Things

After considering the question of whether or not I really need this or that and does it really have to be new, the time has come to concentrate on reusing the things that I already have.

Some things like reusing carrier bags are easy. Other things, like unwanted furniture, might appear a bit more difficult. So to get you started we have prepared a list of ideas to get you going.

  • Reuse plastic carrier bags. Visit the Directgov website to find out why you should.
  • Buy rechargeable batteries.
  • Become a member of the Freecycle movement and help keep usable items out of landfills.
  • Sell your unwanted possessions at a car-boot sale.

Donations

  • Take unwanted furniture in good condition to a furniture recycling scheme such as 9 Lives Furniture in Rickmansworth. There are other furniture reusing schemes. Their details can be found on the WasteAware website.
  • Take unwanted clothes and toys to charity shops. You can find the location of your nearest charity shop here.
  • Donate your old mobile phone to a charity or resell it to one of the many companies specialising in second-hand mobile phones.
  • Donate your old spectacles to the Vision Aid Oversees directly or speak to your optician.
  • Donate your old computer to a company that can find further use for it or have it repaired.
  • Donate your unwanted paint to community repaint project.
  • Take your unwanted books, CDs or DVDs to your favourite charity shop as they can’t usually be recycled or resell them (here is how) if you can. Better yet why not become a member of your local library.

Real Nappies

I can only imagine what you might think when we talk about real cotton nappies: 'I could never return to using them. It is hard to keep them clean and dry for when I need them. They are ugly and can’t be comfortable for the child…’.

If you do think that, you will be wrong. Yes, wrong. Gone are the times of the white cotton sheets that take ages to mould into the right shape and take a miracle to make them stay on. The new Real Nappies are nothing like that. Don’t take my word for it though, look at the information pack and for more details such as the application form visit our Real Nappies site.
